The Czech Republic announced, in a release on 24 June 2024, that it had started negotiations to sign an income tax treaty with Argentina.

Argentina is a traditional economic partner of the Czech Republic in Latin America. Last year, it was the fourth-largest export market in the region. Mutual trade reached more than 136 million dollars last year. Czech companies are currently active in the fields of defence, security, and engineering.

“The Czech Republic and Argentina have a long tradition of economic cooperation, which we can continue to build on. It is good that today we were able to discuss areas where we can further expand our cooperation. From energy, mining, and engineering to digitisation and innovation. Our experts will immediately start working on the preparation of an agreement to avoid double taxation, which would be the next step for joint trade,” said Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala

Argentina also helps the Czech Antarctic programme, especially in logistics. Many Czech citizens now live in Argentina; around fifty thousand people have a Czech passport, and others have Czech roots.

If negotiations are successful, the agreement will need to be signed and ratified before it can take effect. Any treaty resulting will be a first between the two nations.
