In a landmark decision, Colombia’s tax authority (DIAN) published Ruling 294 on 25 April 2024, marking a significant turn in the country’s battle against single-use plastics. This ruling clarifies the application of taxes on the sales of single-use plastic products used in packaging.
The ruling also confirms that the tax extends beyond Colombia’s borders, impacting sales of single-use plastic products in international markets; meaning that exports of such products will now also be subject to taxation.
