Colombia’s National Tax Authority (DIAN) has confirmed that the Unique Tax Registry (RUT) remains valid indefinitely and only needs to be updated if a taxpayer changes their residence, phone number, email, economic activity, tax obligations, or other registered details.

This clarification was issued by DIAN on 7 January 2025.

To enhance data security, DIAN has also removed the identity document’s issuance date from the RUT to reduce the risk of identity theft. Taxpayers are reminded that RUT updates are only necessary when personal or tax-related information changes. DIAN also emphasised that all RUT procedures are free and available through official channels.
