China extends the suspension of 24% additional tariffs on US imports for 90 days, keeping 10% tariffs intact.
China’s Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council announced on 14 August 2025 that it has temporarily suspended its additional 24% tariff on certain US imports for 90 days, effective 12 August 2025.
However, the remaining additional tariffs of 10% on those articles will remain.
This decision was issued under CTC [2025] No. 8, which follows a bilateral agreement with the US during the Stockholm meeting, as outlined in a joint statement released on 11 August 2025.
Both countries will maintain a 10% tariff rate during this period, which ends on 10 November 2025.
The measure also extends the temporary tariff reduction from 34% to 10%, granted initially under CTC [2025] No. 4 for 90 days starting May 2025.
The commission said the extended suspension of certain additional tariffs between China and the United States is a step to further implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state during their phone talks on 5 June 2025.
The move serves the interests of both sides in achieving their respective development goals and will contribute to the development and stability of the world economy, the commission added.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on 11 August 2025, extending the tariff truce between the US and China for an additional 90 days, delaying higher tariffs until 10 November. China likewise postponed planned tariffs and trade restrictions on US firms.
