Canada’s Ministry for National Revenue has highlighted a new tax credit targeting volunteer fire-fighters. This is a part of their ongoing promotion of the government’s Budget measures.
Speaking at a fire station Canada’s Minister for National Revenue emphasised and recognized the efforts the almost 85,000 fire-fighters put for the citizens of the nation. That is why they have introduced the Volunteer Fire-fighter’s Tax Credit to show their gratitude to them.
The proposed tax credit which was included in the re-introduced federal Budget is supposed to be placed in the parliament on June 6. This credit actually was one of the offerings by the re-elected Conservative party. According to that the credit, which is non-refundable, is available to any volunteer fire-fighter who serves at least 200 hours per year at one or more fire departments, beginning on January 1, 2011.
According to the above mentioned new tax credit, services includes responding to and being on call for fire-fighting and other emergencies, attending meetings at the fire department, and taking courses in preventing and putting out fires. Eligible fire-fighters will be able to reduce income taxes as much as CAD450 (USD465) from which they have paid or owe at tax time.
