Ecuador’s Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment, and Fisheries announced that Ecuador and Canada have successfully concluded their fourth round of negotiations for an FTA on 25 October 2024.
This meeting, which took place in person in Quito from 21 – 25 October 2024, established a more solid framework for economic and commercial cooperation between both countries.
The round of negotiations focused on continuing dialogue on the 26 disciplines addressed by this new generation agreement, which aims to foster trade, facilitate investment, promote sustainable development, and diversify our economy.
During this fourth round, the text of the chapters on telecommunications, electronic commerce, gender, trade facilitation, and dispute resolution was finalised. The chapters addressing regulatory practices, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and competition were also finalised in earlier negotiations.
Following the process, the fifth round of negotiations will take place in Ottawa from 9 – 13 December 2024.
