The tax treaty will take effect once the ratification instruments are exchanged and will apply from 1 January of the following year.

Brazil’s Senate approved the ratification of the income tax treaty with Colombia on 26 August 2025.

Signed on 5 August 2022, it is the first treaty between the two countries and aims to eliminate double taxation on income and capital while addressing tax evasion and avoidance between the two countries.

The treaty will take effect upon the exchange of ratification instruments and will apply from 1 January of the following year.

Earlier, Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies ratified the income tax treaty with Colombia on 27 March 2025.
