Bhutan and Bangladesh held talks on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus met on 27 September 2025 at the UN headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, Tobgay expressed strong interest in signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
Chief Adviser Yunus welcomed the proposals, stressing that both nations should actively pursue opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation. He said, “Bangladesh and Bhutan can take their bilateral relations to a new level through improved connectivity, trade and investment.”
The discussions signal a commitment by both countries to deepen economic ties and explore practical measures that could benefit businesses and investors on both sides.
