Belgium has ratified the pending protocol to the 1996 income and capital tax treaty with Vietnam through Decree of 24 March 2025.

The income tax treaty between Belgium and Vietnam aims to prevent double taxation and curb fiscal evasion, ensuring fair taxation on income and capital in both countries.

Signed on 12 March 2012, this is the first protocol to amend the treaty, updating the definition of “competent authority” for Belgium and replacing Article 26 (Exchange of Information) to align with OECD standards.

The treaty will take effect once the ratification instruments are exchanged and apply from 1 January of the following year.
