Pursuant to budget control provisions for 2013 and the budget for 2014, the Belgian government has agreed to change certain tax measures during the legislative process.

A special contribution of 5% which is known as the “Alternative minimum tax” or “fairness tax” will be introduced on the amount of distributed dividends which is originated from the profit of the year and which has been compensated with the notional interest deduction of the year. To contribute the amount subject to this tax, any loss carried forward will not be deductible.

If there is Capital gains which are realized from the repurchase of shares in bond funds and mixed funds, the investors are without European Union passport, will be subject to a withholding tax of 25% from 1stJuly 2013.

The services of lawyers will be subject to VAT from 1 January 2014. From 1 August 2013, the excise duties on alcohol will be increased by 5% and that of tobacco from 2014.
