Bangladesh’s tax authority has pushed back the filing date for January 2026 online VAT returns after public holidays and technical issues disrupted compliance.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting online VAT returns for the January 2026 tax period through its e-VAT system until 22 February, citing public interest.

An official order said the move followed a prolonged spell of government holidays around Shab-e-Barat and the 13th national election, which curtailed business activity and compliance. Further difficulties arose on 15 February when the e-Challan system’s OTP server went down, blocking submissions.

Exercising powers under Section 64(1A) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, the NBR urged VAT-registered entities to file within the extended period to avoid penalties.
