Bangladesh tax authority, National Board of Revenue (NBR), announced in a circular on 17 November 2024 that it has extended the income tax return filing deadline for individual taxpayers by one month for the financial year 2023-24 (assessment year 2024-25), until 31 December 2024.
As per the Income Tax Act 2023, the deadline for filing income tax returns for individual taxpayers for the assessment year was 30 November 2024.
The new tax return deadline applies to both online and physical submissions. Any tax return submissions beyond this deadline will be subject to penalties.
As of now, 375,000 taxpayers have submitted their tax returns electronically.
NBR decided to extend the deadline after receiving requests from taxpayers and various professional bodies.
The NBR mandated that all government employees in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Narayanganj, and Gazipur submit their tax returns online this year. The directive also applies to employees in major MNEs operating in Bangladesh, such as BAT, Unilever, Marico, Berger Paints, Nestle, and Bata. Additionally, the mandate applies to bankers and employees of mobile telecom service providers.
