Australia’s Treasury has released draft legislation for consultation on proposed tax relief measures for alcohol producers as part of its 2025–26 Budget commitments.

Higher rebate for wine producers

From 1 July 2026, the Treasury Laws Amendment Bill 2025: Increased Wine Equalisation Tax Producer Rebate legislation will enable eligible wine producers or groups of associated producers to claim up to AUD 400,000 per financial year, an increase from the current AUD 350,000.

Larger remission for distillers and brewers

Starting 1 July 2026, the Excise Amendment (Remission Increase for Distillers and Brewers) Regulations 2025 will raise the maximum annual remission available to eligible alcohol manufacturers. The cap will move up to AUD 400,000, applying to certain alcoholic beverages produced for domestic consumption.

The consultation closes on 22 September 2025.
