Australia’s Senate has passed the Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credits and Other Measures) Bill 2024 with amendments, proposes refundable tax offsets for hydrogen and critical minerals production while empowering Indigenous Business Australia to invest in First Nations communities and businesses.
The incentives are named hydrogen production tax incentive (HPTI) and critical minerals production tax incentive (CMPTI) respectively.
The bill is now set to return to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
This follows after Australia’s government had presented the “Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credit and Other Measures) Bill 2024’ to the Parliament”. Prior to this, the government had released two consultation papers seeking public feedback on the proposed incentives, which concluded on 12 July 2024.
