According to a release from Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship, officials from Argentina and Tunisia convened on 11 June 2024 to discuss an income tax treaty.

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino and the Ambassador of the Tunisian Republic in Argentina, Mohamed Ali Ben Abid, today conducted an extensive review of the bilateral work agenda with a view to deepening cooperation in various fields.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the San Martín Palace and the diplomatic representative of the Maghreb country reviewed the list of agreements – both in force and under negotiation – between both countries. Regarding the first group, officials highlighted the relevance of the Technical Cooperation Agreement signed in 2019.

Regarding the second group, the Minister and the Ambassador learned about the current state of negotiation of the Cooperation Framework agreement projects: between ANMAT and its Tunisian counterpart; of Customs Cooperation and Assistance; in matters of Air Transport; regarding Maritime Transport; in Industrial matters (INTI/APII); and the draft agreement to Avoid Double Taxation between the parties.

In this regard, the officials renewed the governments’ mutual willingness to renew efforts to conclude the negotiation phase of these instruments and enhance bilateral cooperation.

Next, they emphasised the importance of increasing and diversifying trade between the two countries. In this regard, they highlighted the opportunities offered by the Tunisian market in the agro-food, space, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Finally, Ambassador Ben Abid conveyed to the Chancellor the invitation for Argentina to participate in fairs and trade promotion events in the coffee, agribusiness, and aerospace sectors in Tunisia.

Any resulting treaty would be unprecedented between the two countries and must undergo finalisation, signing, and ratification before it can take effect.
