The UK will maintain its fuel duty freeze and extend the temporary 5p-per-litre cut until at least July 2027, as rising oil prices linked to conflict in the Middle East continue to put pressure on motorists.
Britain will keep fuel duty frozen and extend a temporary 5p cut, Finance Minister John Healey said on 28 October 2026 in his 2026 budget statement.
The government will keep the 5p cut in place through the winter and spring, until at least July 2027.
Earlier this year, the government had already extended the cut and lowered the rate on red diesel to its lowest level in more than 20 years.
Healey said the conflict in the Middle East is still pushing fuel prices higher, so the tax cuts will continue for motorists.
