The ATO has reminded taxpayers who prepare their own returns that they have until 2 November 2026 to lodge their 2025–26 individual income tax returns, with around 2 million self-prepared returns still outstanding.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO), on 19 October 2026, has reminded people who prepare their own tax returns that the deadline is close.
The usual deadline falls on Saturday 31 October 2026. Because of the weekend, people who prepare their own returns have until 11:59 pm local time on Monday 2 November 2026 to lodge.
Around 9 million individual income tax returns for the 2025-26 year have been lodged so far. About 2 million self-prepared returns are still outstanding.
Registered tax professionals must lodge any overdue returns from earlier years for existing clients. They must also add new clients to their client lists by 31 October 2026.
