The Kenya Revenue Authority will waive penalties and interest attributable to verified iTax system disruptions in September 2026 that affected taxpayers’ return filing and payment services.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced, on 17 September 2026, that it will waive penalties and interest arising from intermittent downtime of the iTax portal in September 2026. The disruption affected taxpayers’ ability to access return filing and payment services.

The waiver will be implemented under Section 89(5A) of the Tax Procedures Act and will cover penalties and interest attributable to periods when the affected iTax services were unavailable or intermittently inaccessible.

KRA will carry out the necessary system processes to identify and waive penalties and interest arising from the verified periods of system downtime.

Earlier, the KRA activated a Tax Amnesty Functionality in iTax, allowing eligible taxpayers to obtain relief from penalties, interest, and fines on tax liabilities up to 31 December 2025, provided the principal tax is paid by 31 December 2026.
