Macau and Malaysia have discussed strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, including negotiations on an income tax treaty and exploration of a free trade agreement to facilitate trade and investment.
Officials from Macau and Malaysia met on 4 September 2026 to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, including through negotiations on an income tax treaty, according to a release from the Macau government.
The two sides also supported exploring a free trade agreement to facilitate trade, investment, and business ties. They also discussed closer cooperation in healthcare, education, technology, tourism, sustainable development, and cultural exchanges.
Any resulting income tax treaty between the two countries would need to be finalised, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
