The Government is fighting against tax evasion, highlighting a new policy of focusing efforts on the tax affairs of major companies and new policy to counter the gray economy, said Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Revenue and Duties, Volodymyr Khomenko.
Khomenko explained to ministers after completing his hundredth day in office that the tax authority has more concern about the quality of the material it uses when assessing whether to start an investigation or begin criminal proceedings. Though the number of cases the Ministry had opened over the past year was less than half that of the last 12 months, but that revenue recovery through criminal proceedings was up by 46%.
