Brazil's Federal Revenue Service (RFB) has announced a 12-hour scheduled outage on 25 July 2026 to support the implementation of the new alphanumeric CNPJ format. The agency is urging public bodies and private organisations to ensure their systems are fully adapted before the new format goes live.
Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service (RFB) has announced on 7 July 2026 that its CNPJ Mainframe environment will be unavailable on 25 July 2026, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, to facilitate the implementation of the new alphanumeric CNPJ (Brazilian National Registry of Legal Entities) format.
During the scheduled maintenance window, the Mainframe database will be completely inaccessible. As a result, CNPJ consultations and all other services that depend on the Mainframe environment will be unavailable.
The RFB also warned that, from 25 July 2026, applications that have not been updated to support the alphanumeric CNPJ format may experience operational issues when accessing Federal Revenue Service systems.
To prepare for the transition, organisations should ensure that their information systems are fully compatible with the new format. Specifically:
- Government agencies and other entities that access data directly from the CNPJ Mainframe must update their systems to process alphanumeric CNPJ numbers.
- External systems that integrate with Federal Revenue Service platforms through web services or APIs must also be capable of receiving and processing alphanumeric CNPJs.
The RFB emphasised that all necessary system updates should be completed before the new format enters into production. Additional information on the transition is available through the Alphanumeric CNPJ Portal.
