Belarus and Togo have committed to fast-tracking negotiations on their first-ever double taxation treaty, alongside an investment protection agreement, as both countries seek to remove fiscal barriers and create a stronger legal foundation for cross-border trade and investment.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Belarusian and Togolese officials met on 2 March 2026 to discuss bilateral cooperation. Both parties agreed to strengthen efforts to enhance the legal framework for collaboration, prioritising the completion of an income tax treaty.

The two nations agreed to intensify efforts to improve their legal framework, with the double taxation agreement emerging as a central component of their trade and economic cooperation strategy. This agreement will be developed alongside an investment protection treaty, forming the foundation for enhanced business activity between the countries.

Any treaty resulting from these negotiations would mark the first such agreement between Belarus and Togo, requiring completion of the drafting process, formal signing by both parties, and subsequent ratification before becoming legally effective.
