Rising US prices and supply shortages may have influenced the decision.
The US has removed tariffs on more than USD 2 billion of New Zealand exports, including beef and kiwifruit, Trade Minister Todd McClay said. The move follows an executive order by President Donald Trump reversing previous import duties.
Rising US prices and supply shortages may have influenced the decision. McClay expects beef exports to return to pre-tariff levels and called for further tariff removals on other products.
Meat Industry Association chief Nathan Guy welcomed the move, saying it benefits farmers and processors and restores a level playing field with competitors such as Australia.
