The development follows Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s meeting with President Trump on Friday, 14 November 2025.

Thailand will continue trade talks with the US independently of its border dispute with Cambodia, the government said after Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spoke with President Trump on Friday, 14 November 2025.

The decision came after Washington warned it might stop talks if Thailand did not follow last month’s peace deal. Recent border clashes have increased tensions, with one Cambodian killed and some Thai soldiers hurt by land mines.

Last month, Washington and Bangkok unveiled a trade framework under which the US will keep a 19% tariff on Thai goods, while exploring items where tariffs could be lowered or removed entirely.

Trump indicated tariffs could be reduced if Thailand clears mines along the border. Thai officials said negotiations will proceed while prioritising national security.

Earlier, Thailand proposed a trade deal to the US  to avoid a 36% tariff on its exports, aiming for a lower rate of 10–20%.
