SARS has extended special licenses for jet fuel and kerosene imports and storage until 31 October 2026.

South Africa’s Fuels Industry Association (FIASA) announced on 8 August 2025 that the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has extended special licences for importing and storing jet fuel and illuminating kerosene until 31 October 2026.

Illuminating kerosene, used for household cooking, is also covered.

This move helps prevent potential jet fuel shortages at major airports, including O.R. Tambo International Airport. The extension allows aviation kerosene to be stored in licensed tanks and supplied via pipelines.

South Africa, a net importer of refined petroleum, has faced jet fuel shortages due to losing half its refinery capacity over the past five years.
