An income treaty from these negotiations will be the first between Kenya and Cyprus.

Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that officials from Kenya and Cyprus convened on 7 July 2025 to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, including plans to negotiate an income tax treaty.

The treaty aims to prevent double taxation and tax evasion between Kenya and Cyprus. In addition, both countries have agreed to strengthen their shared interests and commitment to multilateralism and a rules-based international order.

Any resulting treaty will be the first between the two countries and will require finalisation, signing, and ratification before it can take effect.
