Bangladesh and the US to hold final tariff negotiations next week to avert 35% export duty.
Bangladesh will commence a third and final round of negotiations with the US next week to avert a 35% tariff on its exports, scheduled to take effect on 1 August 2025.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin confirmed preparations are underway and expressed hope for a “rational tariff,” seeking duty-free access to the US market.
“We hope the US will set tariffs at a rational level. Preparations are underway for the third phase of negotiations with the US on reciprocal tariffs, with a formal request already made for a timeline,” Commerce Adviser SK Bashir said.
The recent negotiations follow earlier rounds in Washington, where several issues remain unresolved. Due to a non-disclosure agreement, officials have not disclosed negotiation details. Stakeholder consultations are ongoing, and the US is expected to confirm the meeting schedule within the week.
