The US plans to impose ad valorem tariffs of 25%-40%.
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday, 7 July 2025, that new tariffs on imports from 14 countries are set to take effect on 1 August 2025.
The ad valorem rates vary by country: Bangladesh (35%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (30%), Cambodia (36%), Japan (25%), Indonesia (32%), Kazakhstan (25%), Myanmar (40%), Serbia (35%), Laos (40%), Malaysia (25%), South, Africa (30%), South Korea (25%), Thailand (36%), and Tunisia (25%)
Earlier, Trump announced on Truth Social that the US would begin sending out tariff letters or deals to various countries on 7 July.
In his post, he stated, “I am pleased to announce that the UNITED STATES TARIFF Letters, and/or Deals, with various Countries from around the World, will be delivered starting 12:00 P.M. (Eastern), Monday, July 7th. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump also signed an executive order extending the suspension of these tariffs from 9 July to 1 August 2025.
Earlier, Trump signed an executive order implementing a 10% baseline tariff on imports from all countries on 2 April 2025. However, just days later, on 9 April 2025, he announced a three-month suspension of all “reciprocal” tariffs, except those imposed on China.
