Argentina’s government has postponed the scheduled tax increases on liquid fuels and carbon dioxide through Decree 296/2025, which was published in the Official Gazette on 30 April 2025.
This decree delays the hiked tax rates until 1 June 2025.
Initially set for 1 May 2025, these adjustments account for updates from late 2023 and all of 2024.
Argentina introduced a carbon tax on most liquid fuels on 1 January 2018, replacing previous fuel taxes. The tax also applies to solid products like coal and petroleum coke. While the law (Law 27.430) took effect in January 2018, it has been applied to most products since March 2018.
