China’s Ministry of Finance has released Tax Commission Announcement No. 2 of 2025 on 4 March detailing the implementation of additional tariffs on select US products.
The additional measures include a 15% tariff on US imports of chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton and a 10% tariff on other goods, including sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced the addition of 15 American companies, including drone manufacturer Skydio, to its export control list. This decision bans Chinese firms from supplying dual-use equipment to these entities.
Additionally, China is also halting imports of US lumber, revoking export licenses for three American soybean companies, and launching an anti-dumping investigation into specific US fiber optic products.
This follows after US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order on 3 March 2025, increasing tariffs on Chinese products from 10% to 20%. The order also amends previous actions targeting the synthetic opioid supply chain and cites China’s insufficient efforts to curb the influx of synthetic opioids like fentanyl into the US.
Earlier, on 30 January 2025, President Trump signed an executive order implementing a 10% tariff on imports from China. The order also introduced a 25% duty on goods from Canada and Mexico, which officially took effect on 4 March 2025.
Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced a decisive retaliatory measure by imposing 25% tariffs on CAD 155 billion worth of US goods.
