Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa has signed Executive Decree No. 470 on 4 December 2024, extending the 15% VAT rate increase through 2025.
The VAT rate has been increased from 12% to 15% under the Organic Law to Confront the Internal Armed Conflict and the Social and Economic Crisis.
Previously, the VAT rate was set at 13%. However, the President has the authority to adjust it up to 15% with approval from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. As such, the President temporarily raised the VAT rate to 15%, and enacted it through Executive Decree No. 198, which took effect on 1 April 2024 and since has been extended to 2025.
