Turkey’s Revenue Administration has announced that representatives from Turkey and Congo signed an income tax treaty on 14 November 2024.

During the margins of the 4th Session of the Türkiye-Congo Joint Economic Commission (JEC) Meeting held in Ankara on 13-14 November 2024, the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Republic of Congo for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Tax Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income” was signed in Ankara.

The agreement was signed by the co-chairs of the JEC: Türkiye’s Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, and Congo’s Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public-Private Partnerships, Denis-Christel Sassou Nguesso.

The agreement aims to make Türkiye and Congo more attractive for investors from both countries. It will come into force after ratification by the parliaments of both nations.

The agreement specifies which country has the right to tax different types of income and outlines measures to prevent double taxation when income is taxable in both countries. Taxation rights in the country of income origin are limited to specific rates for dividends, interest, royalties, and fees for technical services.

Additionally, the agreement includes a provision for the exchange of information, enabling both countries to combat tax evasion and avoidance more effectively. It also contains regulations for cooperation in tax collection between the two nations.
