Romania has issued Order no. 2.412 of 6 November 2024 in the Official Gazette, announcing the suspension of the 1997 income and capital tax treaty with Belarus, effective from 12 November 2024.
Earlier, the Romanian government approved a memorandum on 18 September 2024 to suspend the tax treaty with Belarus. This decision follows Belarus’s suspension of specific provisions in its tax treaties with 27 countries, including Romania, effective from 1 June 2024 through 31 December 2026.
The Order doesn’t specify an end date for the suspension, but Romania’s suspension of the treaty is expected to end on 1 January 2027 unless altered by Belarus.
