Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha was received in Luanda by President of the Republic of Angola João Lourenço, to further the dialogue between the Angolan leader and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 25 October 2024.

“We are grateful to President of Angola João Lourenço for his strong and principled position in support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Both of our countries know the pain of war, but they also know the price and value of peace,” the Foreign Minister emphasised.

With possibilities of concluding an income tax treaty, during the meeting, the parties exchanged views on key issues of the international agenda, including food and energy security and freedom of navigation.

Andrii Sybiha emphasised the importance of supporting the Peace Formula, which is the only way to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in our country, and offered the Angolan side to join the international efforts aimed at its practical implementation.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy highly appreciated the efforts of Angola and, in particular, President João Lourenço personally in the framework of the Luanda process to solve the security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“We invite Angola, which is known in the world for its peace efforts, to participate in the Second Global Peace Summit,” the Minister stated.

The parties discussed in detail the intensification of bilateral cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest: agriculture, education, technologies, energy, military-technical cooperation and others.

“This year we celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Angola. My visit, which is the first visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Angola and my first official visit to Africa, emphasises the importance of Angola to Ukraine when it comes to the region of southern Africa. We have historically had close ties between our people and countries. I hope that together we will open a new page of our bilateral relations,” stressed Andrii Sybiha.

Andrii Sybiha highlighted the openness and consistency of Ukraine’s policy related to the development of relations with African states on the principles of friendship and trust, mutually beneficial cooperation and respect for the UN Charter. And opening in 2024 of diplomatic missions of Ukraine in 7 countries on the African continent is the direct evidence of this.
