The tax filing season in Singapore started on March 1, 2014. Around 1.23m taxpayers will not need to file a return, as more people benefit from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore’s (IRAS) No-Filing Service (NFS).
Taxpayers who have been informed of their eligibility for the NFS this year will not need to file a tax return, unless they have additional income to declare or changes to make to their personal reliefs.
Taxpayers who are not on the NFS will receive a letter or SMS informing them to file on the IRAS website by April 18, 2014. They will have to file a tax return this year, even if their employers have sent their salary details to IRAS under the Auto-Inclusion Scheme for Employment Income. Over the years, IRAS has made tax filing easier for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.
