On 27 April 2020, the Myanmar Government published its COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan in response to the coronavirus outbreak. The relief package includes the following tax relief measures.
- Defer Corporate Income Tax (Q2 payments expiring on 31 March and Q3 payments expiring on 30 June) up to 30 September 2020.
- Defer Commercial Tax (payable every three-months) up to 30 September 2020.
- Waive the 2% Withholding Tax on exports.
- Waive Specific Goods Tax for critical medical supplies and products related to the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19.
- Waive Customs Duties and Commercial Tax related to the importation of critical medical supplies and products related to the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19.
- Provide 10% non-refundable tax credits on the incremental wage bill.
- Provide 10% non-refundable tax credits for incremental investments on capital equipment.
