It was reported on 10 July 2012 that Liechtenstein’s Prime Minister and Japan’s ambassador have recently signed in Vaduz a bilateral tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) in accordance with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) model convention, together with a joint statement.
Alluding to the fact that Japan is a member of both the OECD and the G20, the Liechtenstein government explained in its release that the TIEA with Japan is a standard agreement, providing for an exchange of tax information upon request.
The bilateral TIEA is due to apply to tax years from January 1, 2013, at the earliest, following parliamentary ratification.
