The Oman government has clarified that the tax rules in Oman require the following:
- Within three months from the date of incorporation or commencement of activities, taxpayers must be registered with the Omani tax authorities and if there is any change to registration information, within two months from the date of the change must be communicated.
- In the currency of Oman, company accounts must be maintained.
- A foreign-owned subsidiary must be registered in Oman.
Pursuing assessments of tax returns will be time-barred in 2013. So, taxpayers will therefore need to keep in touch with the tax authorities. To reduce the threat of arbitrary adjustments they will require responding to questions and requests for clarification from the tax authorities.
