On 21 December 2020, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Finance has issued a press release regarding the extension of filing deadlines for tax returns due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
- The deadline for filing individual and corporate income tax (CIT) returns for the year 2020 is set at the end of June 2021 instead of 31 March 2021. The same applies to the trade tax.
- Regarding returns for individual income tax and for municipal business tax returns for the year 2019, an extension of the deadline for filing returns will be allowed until 31 March 2021 instead of 31 December 2020.
A bill to this effect will be tabled in early January in the Chamber of Deputies. Furthermore, the tax authority will exceptionally invite the corporate tax offices not to impose supplements for late filing with regard to declarations for corporate income tax and for the commercial tax for the year 2019 which will be delivered until 31 March 2021 at the latest.
