On 4 August 2020, Malaysia published the Official Gazette PU (A) 224/2020 of 13 July 2020 providing ratification announcement of the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent BEPS (MLI), by way of the Double Taxation Relief (Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) Order 2020.
Malaysia was involved in the development of the MLI with more than 100 jurisdictions in the Ad Hoc Group. The negotiation of the MLI text was concluded on 24 November 2016 in Paris.
