Malta has ratified the double taxation agreement (DTA) signed with Moldova. Under the terms of the agreement, withholding tax on dividends paid from Moldova is restricted to 5%, and withholding tax on interest and royalties between the two countries is also restricted to 5%. The agreement will enter into force when ratification procedures have been completed.
The agreement includes Articles in respect of nondiscrimination and the exchange of tax information. The agreement also provides for a mutual agreement procedure to resolve cases where taxation may arise that is contrary to the provisions of the treaty, and provides for arbitration if the competent authorities cannot reach agreement on an issue within two years.
