On 9 April 2020, the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance has published an announcement regarding tax support in response to COVID-19 pandemic. In the announcement, South Korea’s government has extended tax return filing and payment deadline for individual taxpayers with confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses and individuals living in the COVID-19 affected area. The tax return filing and payment deadline are extended as follows:
- For all individual taxpayers, the tax payment deadline is extended to 31 August 2020 from 1 June 2020;
- For individual taxpayers living in the COVID-19 affected area (Daegu, Gyeongsan, Cheongdo, and Bonghwa), tax returns filing deadline is extended to 30 June 2020 from 1 June 2020;
- For individual taxpayers with confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses or directly affected businesses, tax returns filing deadline is extended to 31 August 2020 from 1 June 2020; and
- For other individual taxpayers, the tax returns filing deadline will be the same as the original deadline 1 June 2020.
