The first global conference of the Platform for Collaboration on Tax (PCT) is to be held on February 14-16, 2018, focusing on important directions for tax policy and administration so as to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The PCT was set up by the IMF, OECD, UN and World Bank at the request of the G20 group of countries to support domestic resource mobilization and recommend mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of technical assistance programs. The Platform organizes collective action to strengthen the tax systems of developing and emerging countries through policy dialogue; technical assistance and capacity building; knowledge dissemination and input into the design of standards for international tax. The PCT has produced toolkits and guidance on issues in international taxation and capacity building.

The participants and speakers at the conference include policymakers, tax administrators, academics and representatives of the private sector, regional tax organizations and donor organisations. The topics discussed will cover domestic resource mobilization and the state; the role of tax in supporting sustainable economic growth, investment and trade; the social dimensions of tax (poverty, inequality, and human development); tax capacity development and tax cooperation. The views expressed at the conference will be taken into account in formulating the upcoming work of the PCT and its member organisations. Guidance will be provided to individual countries on how to target their tax policy to achieve the SDGs.
