US: Trump administration releases list of demands for NAFTA

Posted on Updated on

The Trump administration has released a list of demands for renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement. The US has also issued a broad plan for revising the terms of trade and transforming the U.S. economy for decades to come.

The government wants to export more dairy products, grains and wines; ensure freer trade in telecommunications and online purchases; introduce new rules on currency manipulation; overhaul the dispute-settlement system; and ensure more access for U.S. banks abroad.

The broad list contains some goals specifically championed by President Trump, as well as numerous provisions that echo the terms of the Trans Pacific Partnership, the trade agreement rejected by Trump.
